Zane Albarus: Brighton prospect signs on at Priestfield
Young midfielder becomes Gillingham's second signing of the summer at ME7.
Gillingham’s second summer signing adds youth to Gareth Ainsworth’s midfield options, as former Brighton & Hove Albion man Zane Albarus arrives at Priestfield.
Albarus has signed a initial two-year deal, with the 20-year-old centre midfielder arriving as a free agent signing following his release by the Premier League side.
Albarus has been a mainstay in the Seagulls’ Under 18s and Under 21s teams during his time with the South Coast club, and last season made seven appearances in Premier League 2’s main season, plus three more as he helped Brighton to win the Premier League 2 playoffs.
Predominantly a centre midfielder, he has shown his versatility by appearing at right back on a couple of occasions, and arrives at Priestfield looking to fight his way into first-team football and establish himself as a regular in the EFL.
“I am so excited to join and be on board for next season,” he told the official Gillingham FC website.
“This will be my first opportunity in a senior team and play EFL Football. I can’t wait.
“I put 110 percent into everything I do. I am raring to go.”
