Liam Gordon: Gillingham bolster their defence with experienced centre-half signing
Gillingham add experienced former Motherwell and St Johnstone defender
Gillingham’s latest summer signing sees the club turn its attention north of the border to secure the signing of former Motherwell centre-half Liam Gordon.
Gordon has signed a two-year deal with the club, and told the club’s official website that a conversation with the Gills coaching team convinced him that a move down to ME7 was the right next step for his career.
“When Gillingham came knocking, it was a move that really interested me.
“After speaking with the manager and the rest of the coaching staff, I came away with a great feeling about the place.
“I am delighted to be here.”

The 30-year-old has campaigned regularly at Scottish Premiership level during his career, and now swaps the top division in Scotland for the fourth tier of English football as he joins Gareth Ainsworth’s new-look Gills squad ahead of the 2026-27 season.
Gordon spent the bulk of his professional career at St Johnstone, where he racked up 201 appearances for the club, winning the Scottish Cup and Scottish League Cup double in the 2020-21 season.
More recently, he has plied his trade at Motherwell, where he made 57 appearances before departing the club this summer. Now he’s joined the Gills, and will join Omar Beckles as one of two experienced centre-half options for Gareth Ainsworth next season.
