Glenn Morris seals Dorking Wanderers move
It didn’t take “The Cat” long to find a new home after his release by Gillingham this summer.
Former Gillingham goalkeeper Glenn Morris didn’t have to wait too long before he found a new club, with the veteran stopper putting pen to paper on a contract with National League South contenders Dorking Wanderers.
“I had contact from the manager and Dean (Lightwood), who I have worked with before, and it really excited me, and I’m pleased to get it done,” Morris told the Dorking Wanderers official website after sealing his move.
“I’ve obviously been through quite a few different experiences and if I can help the lads in any way, then I will, not just on the pitch but off the pitch as well.”
Manager and Chairman Marc White hailed the arrival of the former Gills man, saying, “We’re delighted that an established professional like Glenn has chosen to join Dorking Wanderers. He’s a Football League goalkeeper who, in my opinion, should still be playing in the EFL, and he comes to us off the back of an outstanding season at Gillingham.
“I believe Glenn’s experience, leadership and quality will contribute hugely to the group, and I’m flattered that Dorking will be the first club outside the EFL in his career. I am confident that Glenn has the potential to be the standout signing of our summer transfer window.”
Morris made 136 appearances for the Gills across two stints at Priestfield. His first spell in Kent saw him make just 12 appearances for the club from 2014-2016. But when he returned for a second bite of the cherry in 2022, he went on to make 124 further appearances, all the way up to the final game of this season, where he signed off with a clean sheet at home – his 41st – in the Gills’ 1-0 win over Shrewsbury.
